Yup, there's so many aspects of sustainable design that are just various considerations and approaches one can make in the design process. For this reason, I think it's also why perhaps case studies are hard for designers to make. Certain things done in the past were just logical and weren't an explicit choice. Yet, the design community needs case studies to better learn from others on how a particular situation can be better addressed. I think building a single or multiple scenarios is the answer.
